Review: 21 Lessons for the 21st Century
21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah HarariMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is easy to read as you can start from any chapter. The last 3 chapters of the book are extremely important as it makes you understand how Harari thinks.
One should always prefer his first two books over this book.

10 examples of low technology that really improve our life.
Technology does not need to be high tech to improve the quality of your life. I believe that you should find the things you value and then find the technology accordingly.
- Alarm Clock: I think just because we have alarms in phones, we should not abandon the clocks. I am strictly again keeping the phones in the bedroom.
- Text Messaging over WhatsApp: I think I don't need WhatsApp. Most of my needs can be easily achieved via text messaging. So there is no need for me to install WhatsApp.
- Books/blogs over Social Media: I am an ideas person and I think that books are still the best way to learn about ideas. Twitter might help me in connecting with similar people but it has negatives. In terms of books, there are no negatives.
- No OTT platforms: Entertainment takes away the time that we should spend on ourself or with closed ones.
- Cooking over eating out: The menu of options always confuses me and I think cooking at home is still better than eating out.
- One week an episode over binge-watching
- Newspapers over web news: I don't want to feel anxious by watching trending news or breaking news. I would prefer a filtered version of events a day later than the events.
- Copper Water Bottles over Plastic Bottles.
- Physical Sports over Digital games.
- Not relying on health devices. I think I will listen to my body than a Fitbit watch telling me to run 10,000 steps a day.
Review: The Human Factor: Revolutionizing the Way People Live with Technology
The Human Factor: Revolutionizing the Way People Live with Technology by Kim J. VicenteMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was recommended by one Professor friend and the book was worth all the time I spent reading it. Human-tech is the term that is coined by Prof Kim Vicente. Books like this should be required reading in the first year of engineering. One particular thing that I liked about Kim is his emphasis on environment for designing products. The last chapter is the best one which summarises the book ideas well and has advice on how we can look at technology.
I am rating it 5 stars because I never lost interest in the book and the examples are well explained at every step. This book does not get boring or repetitive at any point.

10 areas where we can have a system like ASRS
Aviation Safety Reporting System was a reporting system where people( mainly pilots) can report errors so that others can benefit from it.
- Teacher's Feedback System: Current system is bizarre and i dont think that it serves the purpose. Teachers should document their experiences in handling some difficult students so that others can learn easily.
- A general purpose document for a client in an IT company so that every new member knows all the important details.
- Anonymous feedback option on my blog.
- Some general travel guides by tourism departments on their official website.
- A feedback system for India roads .
- A book on how to do reasearch for your Masters and Doctorate.
- Common research book on addictions.
- A parental feedback magazine so that other parents can learn about parenting.
- A food guide for tourists.
- A feedback mechanism for railways in India.
10 designs of my environment which are not made considering the human factor
- Yoga Mat: I think that the thickness of yoga mats is very less. The default yoga mats should be 8mm thick not 6 mm.
- Car Seats: I think they are more comfortable than it is required. They are not really ideal for a taller man. (Personal Bias)
- Heels: Whatever the trending fashion is, things should not make a person uncomfortable.
- Superbikes: Is the struggle with heavy bikes worth?
- Location of dustbins: A dustbin should be at a distance from a tree.
- Advertising boards on roads: There should be a limit on how much information can be displayed on a traffic signal. We should not increase the mental workload.
- Animal toys: I think there should be some basic rules for playing with animal toys. Kids should not throw animal toys. This will have a subconscious effect.
- A standard rule for the switches: We should have a universal rule like the first switch for light, second switch for the fan, etc
- Better symbols on doors for push and pull.
- Better sachets for ketchup. I don't have to struggle every time.

10 examples/use cases of reverse engineering:
In reverse engineering, you find out the users based on the design and usage by thinking backward like looking at a bicycle and trying to find the average height of people who use it.
- Finding the type of people who use ipads- gamers, kids, etc.
- Books or Kindle: People who are moving will like to prefer Kindle.
- Cars: Designed for people who are of average height or have shorter legs.

- Punjabi Songs and Bollywood movies: For people who want to get off their mental or physical stress by using these two mediums as a way of escape. Not for people who want to think.
- Bars/Drugs: For people who want to forget their worries. Not for who want to improve their lives.
