My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I had to read this book since one of the protagonists of this book, Peter Thiel wrote a book 'Zero To One' which influenced me a lot. The underlying principle of this book is that if you know something is having a bad influence on culture, should you let it happen and leave it on Karma or take it in your hands and solve it. Gawker was an entertainment gossip website which often violated the privacy of famous stars. Peter Thiel who was outed as gay by this website decided to do something about this. The rest of the book is the conspiracy of Peter Thiel to fund a Hulk Hogan V/s Gawker case so that gawker could be destroyed completely. Ryan Holiday, the author has written this book in a remarkable way often comparing this conspiracy with other conspiracies of human history at appropriate intervals.
Often in society, we know that some negative things are happening. We know that they are having a negative influence on people. Should we allow them to operate under free will and leave it to God or should we do something about it? The closest examples that come to my mind are apps like Tiktok, Snapchat or maybe video games like Pubg. Ryan doesn't take any side on this topic rather it leaves upon readers to form their own opinions.
